Getting There By Water

Situated on a wide stretch of the Rio de la Plata with open access to the Atlantic Ocean, Puerto Buenos Aires (tel: (011) 4342 1727; website: www.puertobuenosaires.gov.ar) is Argentina’s major trading port. It is also a docking port for a number of international cruise ships and for ferry services between Buenos Aires and the cities of Colonia and Montevideo in Uruguay.

Ferry services: Ferrylineas (tel: (011) 4314 4580 or 2052; website: www.ferryturismo.com.uy) and Buquebus (tel: (011) 4316 6500; website: www.buquebus.com) operate several daily services to and from Colonia and Montevideo in Uruguay. Both companies depart from and arrive at Dársena Norte dock on Avenida Antrátida Argentina, next to Puerto Mardero. Facilities at the Buquebus terminal include a café, ATM and bookshop, while the Ferrylineas terminal just contains a small café.

Transport to the city: The ferry terminal is within walking distance of the downtown business and shopping areas and close to the Retiro and L.N. Alem Subte stations. Taxis leave from outside each of the terminals.
